Wagon Works-99 in Septemvri - Initiative and professionalism

Maya DIMITROVA

By 1999, the activity of the Wagon Works in Septemvri was concentrated only in the overhaul of passenger coaches, the sole customer for these services being the national company ‘BDZ’. The establishment of the Septemvri Wagon Works as an independent enterprise enabled it to respond in a much more flexible manner to market demand. In the course of only 4-5 years it attracted as customers some of the most significant industrial enterprises such as Lukoil, the non-ferrous metals smelter KCM SA, Medet, Neftochim, etc. It also developed strong cooperation with the French ‘NACCO’, the Czech ‘LokoTrans’ and the Macedonian ‘Macedonia Quantum’. The works management considers the recent procurement orders from Gabon and South Africa as a most significant and unusual market break-through. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport has issued to the works a certificate for the production of tank-wagons for petroleum products, dangerous goods, light and heavy derivates. The wagon works also acts as representative for the ‘Nijni Dnepropetrovsk Coach Repair and Construction Plant’ Open Joint-Stock Company and has been issued a quality assurance certificate for the procurement of wheels for

wagons/coaches and other vehicles. Thanks to this certificate, the wagon works exports large batches of renovated wheels. The CEO, Emil Ionchev, states that Septemvri Wagon Works is the only company in our country, licensed for the re-assembly and production of new wheelsets. Recently, the company received the topmost quality assurance certificate ISO 9001. Hitherto, about 40 000 wheelsets with a three-year guarantee have been produced and none of the Eastern European or African partners has raised any claims.
